Veteran Educational Programs

The Veterans Center provides assistance for veterans and their families with certification for Veterans Administration benefits including all chapters of the Montgomery GI Bill. The office can also assist veterans and their families with application for other benefits such as the National Guard Grant, Illinois Veterans Grant, and the MIA/POW Scholarship.

Federal and State Veterans Educational Programs are available for active duty service members and veterans of the U. S. Armed Services, and in some cases, the dependents of service members. Resources received through most federal Veterans Educational Programs do not effect financial aid eligibility. The following links provide additional information on these programs and the processed that must be followed to utilize these benefits.

Military Programs

The Military Programs area of the SIU Financial Aid Office (FAO) assists students attending an off-campus site with the financial aid programs which may fund their post-secondary education.  Financial aid is awarded as grants, scholarships and loans from various federal, state, institutional and private sources.  Most off-campus sites have a local SIU representative who assists students with general financial aid questions and acts as a liaison to the SIU FAO Military Programs Financial Aid Advisor.  At locations where there is no SIU representative, students should work directly with the Military Program Financial Aid Advisor.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale has course work leading to Bachelor of Science degrees offered on military bases in thirteen states in:

  • Aviation Management,
  • Electronic Systems Technologies,
  • Health Care Management,
  • Information Systems Technologies,
  • Industrial Technology,
  • Workforce Education and Development

Similar Off-Campus Programs are offered at off-campus civilian sites. Detailed information on the SIU programs offered can be found on the Distance Education website.
