What is a Credit Reporting Agency?

The primary duty of each credit reporting agency is to collect and maintain information that forms your credit history and ultimately, your credit report. This information includes your payment history from differnt financial institutions.

The three main credit reporting agencies are:

  • Experian
  • TransUnion
  • Equifax

Every 12 months you are entitled to request one free credit report from each of these agencies. This means you are able to check your credit report for free 3 times a year (once through Experian, once through TransUnion and once through Equifax).
